The design draws its inspiration from the Maijishan Grottoes, a significant cultural heritage of the region. The use of arches, the parent element of the design, establishes a harmonious and solemn atmosphere throughout the space. The arches, integrated into the relationship among space, experience, and nature, present a unique aesthetic feeling that is both meaningful and aesthetically pleasing.
What sets this design apart is its symbolic creativity. It adopts the shape extension of the Maijishan Grottoes and integrates contemporary design techniques. The design prudently carries out symbolic expressions in its form and structure, echoing the natural simplicity, unadorned property, and serenity of the grottoes. It aims to awaken the memory and vitality of urban people.
The realization of this design involved the use of stone and metal as the main materials. The sand table area, in particular, uses these materials to complete the rendering and continuation of two-dimensional elements. The white stone base of the sand table protrudes above the ground, adding a unique touch to the design.
The project, covering a total of 1350 square meters, started in May 2020 and was completed in November 2020. The design team, consisting of Forrest Xu, Amy Chen, King Jin, and Kyle Song, faced the challenge of creating a space that not only reflects the history and culture of Maijishan but also presents a unique sense of space. They successfully overcame this challenge, creating a space that carries the memory of history and past life while endowing the field with emotional resonance.
The Tianshui Brightmoon Sales Office is a perfect example of how design can be a bridge between the past and the present, between tradition and modernity. It is a design that truly captures the essence of its location, Tianshui, a place of beautiful scenery and profound historical background. This design is not just a space; it is a time tunnel that transports its visitors to a different era.
